Southeastern Career Institute, formerly Southeastern Paralegal Institute, was founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1981. The Dallas location opened in 1987 to serve the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area's need for trained paralegals. Southeastern Paralegal Institute of Dallas was formerly owned by Denver Paralegal Institute Acquisition Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Denver Paralegal Institute, Ltd. Its paralegal training program has been approved by the American Bar Association since 1979.
In November 2000, the School was purchased by Quest Education Corporation, a subsidiary of Kaplan, Inc. In December 2002, Quest was renamed Kaplan Higher Education Corporation. Kaplan is dedicated to continuing the same excellent education for which the School is known.
Southeastern Career Institute opened a branch campus in Midland, Texas in October 2003.
